Francis, a young man, remembers in his memory the ugly experiences he and his bride-to-be Jane recently went through. it's the annual truthful in Holstenwall. Francis and his friend Alan visit the cupboard of Dr. Caligari, associate exhibit wherever the mysterious doctor shows the sleeper Cesare, and awakens him for a few moments from his death-like sleep. once Alan asks Cesare concerning his future, Cesare answers that he can die before dawn. future morning Alan is found dead. Francis suspects Cesare of being the liquidator, and starts spying on him and Dr. Caligari. the subsequent night Cesare goes to stab Jane in her bed, however softens once he sees the attractive girl, and rather than committing another murder, he abducts her. Jane's father awakens attributable to the noise, and he and a few servants follow the fleeing Cesare. once Cesare cannot run his pursuers any longer, he gently places Jane down on the bottom, and runs away. Francis and also the police investigate the caravan of Dr. Caligari, however the doctor succeeds in slippy away. Francis pursues the fleeing Dr. Caligari, and sees him disappear into a booby hatch. Francis enters the booby hatch, wherever he's positive he can notice the reality behind of these mysterious events.
